Traditional Calico Cat
The calico markings can appear in any cat from a purebreed cat to a mixed breed cat. Any domestic cat can have a possibility to be calico. Some breeds the are more often seen in calico colors. Some cats that have calico coloring found often in them are the Japanese bobtail cat, the Sphynx cat, the Exotic shorthair cat, and the American shorthair. Also the Manx cat, Oriental shorthair, the Turkish Van cat, and a few more. Calico cats can come in two color combinations. There is the traditional calico cat which consists of red or orange, black and white. These colors are generally not blended well together, but look like patches of color. The second kind of calico cat there is would be a pastel calico. Pastel calicoes have a more dilute color. Their colors consist of a blue, cream and white. For the pastel calico, the blue would replace the black in the traditional. The orange would be replaced by cream and white is still the same for either cat. If the colors are not distinctive patches of color and the colors look like they are running together, then the cat is not calico but instead a tortoiseshell.
